There are three movements in this duet:

1. Allegro
2. Lamento
3. Presto

The original work was in the keys of G major / E minor / G major but this saxophone duet arrangement is transposed to the keys of B-flat Major / G minor/ B-flat Major for saxophones. The duet is for two alike saxophones (Alto/Alto, Tenor/Tenor, etc) but could be played by two saxes in the same pitch (Soprano/Tenor or Alto/Bari). This piece provides a great workout for scales, arpeggios, and quick dynamic shifts. Clean articulation and precision is required from both players. Grade 4 -5.

About the Composer

W.F. Bach, eldest son of Johann Sebastian Bach, was a German composer and musician whose troubled personality and erratic career made him considerably less influential than his younger brother, C.P.E. Bach, despite his acknowledged talents as an organist, improviser, and composer in the galant, or rococo style of the mid-18th century. He incorporated more elements of his father than his three composer brothers, but his use of that style has an individualistic and improvisatory edge which endeared his work to musicians of the late 19th century, when there was something of a revival of his reputation.
