March Majestic (1902)
Scott Joplin (1867/8 – 1917)
AATB Saxophone Quartet
March Majestic, March and Two-Step by Scott Joplin arranged for saxophone quartet AATB. This march was published in St. Louis in 1902. That was a prolific year for Joplin, when a number of his most famous compositions were being published. This simple march was written about the same time as the Peacherine Rag and the famous Entertainer Rag.
Originally written as a piano solo, this arrangement of March Majestic is for AATB saxophone quartet. Although written by Joplin at the peak of his career, there’s very little ragtime in this march. It is written in 6/8 time and follows the form of typical march from the turn of the 20th century.
