About the Composer
Victor Herbert was born in Dublin, Ireland on 1 February 1859, and died in New York, New York, on 26 May 1924, at the age of 65. He studied at the Stuttgart Conservatory in 1876. Herbert played cello and also was a bandmaster and conductor. He was co-founder of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), serving as vice president for a decade. He is one of the most important composers in the development of American musical theater.
