Romanze, Op. 16, No. 1
Leone Sinigaglia (1868 – 1944)
Baritone Saxophone Solo with piano
Romanze by Leone Sinigaglia, arranged for Baritone Saxophone Solo with piano. Leone Sinigaglia, composer and mountaineer, was admired by Fritz Kreisler, Arturo Toscanini, and many other prominent musicians but fell into obscurity after his death in 1944. Born in Turin, Italy, into a well-to-do family of Jewish heritage, He is among the many early 20th Century composers whose works were suppressed and eventually all but forgotten. A student of Dvorák, Sinigaglia adopted the Czech master’s penchant for the study and inclusion of folk elements into his writing but his compositions remain rooted in the German Romantic tradition. Sinigaglia’s works are not especially innovative but are enjoyable thanks to their well-crafted melodies. This work, originally written for cello and piano in 1902, is no exception.
Romanze, Op. 16, No. 1 includes a piano score and baritone saxophone solo part. (no altissimo; wide range; key of D flat.)
