Ferdinand Laub was a Czech violinist and composer, born in Prague. He was a child prodigy – his first public appearance was at the age of 6. At 10 he was a popular performer on the Prague music scene. From 1843-46 he studied at the conservatory there. For the next 20 years he was a touring virtuoso traveling Europe and Russia. Laub was a well-admired violinist, winning awards all over Europe; Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky called him “the best violinist of our time”.
