Humoresque Opus 10, No. 2 (1872)
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893)
SATB Saxophone Quartet
Humoresque Opus 10, No. 2 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky arranged for SATB Saxophone Quartet. Tchaikovsky’s Humoresque is a light-hearted dance loosely based on a French folk song. Originally for piano solo, it is often played by string players.
Humoresque was written between 24 December 1871/5 January 1872 and 29 January/10 February 1872 while the composer was staying in Nice, and the theme of the middle section is based on the old French song ‘La fille aux oranges’, which Tchaikovsky heard during his stay. Before 1900, it was among Tchaikovsky’s most-performed piano pieces.
