Harem Scarem Rag (1912)
Lem Trombley
SATB or AATB Saxophone Quartet
Harem Scarem Rag by Lem Trombley, for Saxophone quartet S/AATB. Harem Scarem Rag is a fun little piece written in 1912 by Lem Trombley. It’s written in a typical ragtime form: ABCB (each section repeated). The ‘A’ section is in the key of D minor but sections B and C modulate to F major. The lead moves from horn to horn so there’s plenty going on in each part to keep everyone occupied.
Not much is known about the composer, George ‘Lem’ Trombley. In the early 1900’s he was active in the ragtime scene in and around Detroit, Michigan. One interesting fact – he wrote music for some of the early Marx Brothers films.
This arrangement is for SATB or AATB saxophone quartet.
