Duetto (1824)
Gioachino Rossini (1792 –1868)
Alto and Baritone Saxophone Duet
Duetto for Alto and Baritone Saxophone by Rossini, arranged for alto and baritone saxophone duet. The original version is for cello and double bass. From start to finish it is filled with the wit, lyricism, and melodic invention that made Rossini the leading opera composer of his time.
This arrangement of the Duetto includes all three movements of the original:
I. Allegro moderato
II. Andante molto
III Allegro vivo
Although written for cello and bass, this transcription of Duetto for saxophones – alto and bari – loses none of the brilliance and virtuosity of the original. It is truly a duet in that each part is equally important. There is an easy give and take of melody and accompaniment and each voice is given more than its share of soloistic moments.
