Sarabande and Canzonetta
Anatoly Liadov (1855-1914)
SATB or AATB Sax Quartet
Sarabande and Canzonetta, by Anatoly Liadov, arranged for SATB or AATB saxophone quartet. Born in St. Petersburg into a musicial family, Liadov had music lessons from his father as a child. Later he entered the St. Petersburg Conservatory to study piano and violin. He focused on composition instead of performance. Liadov’s technical facility was highly regarded by his contemporaries, but he was somewhat lazy and his unreliability stood in the way of his advancement. Due to his indolent nature his body of work is quite small.
Liadov did compose a large number of piano miniatures. Sarabande and Canzonetta are two of them. This transcription is for SATB or AATB sax quartet.
