Vocalise-etude was originally written by Gabriel Faure for voice and piano. This transcription is for any alto saxophone solo or soprano saxophone with piano. It is also suitable for tenor or bari sax. As an etude it poses several challenges to the musician: intervals up to a tenth, unusual harmonies, and rhythmic precision. Aside from its value as a study, it is a beautiful piece of music in its own right. Vocalise-etude was composed in 1907. It was edited and released in 1920 under the title of Pièce for a variety of solo woodwind or string instruments. Fauré was was one of the foremost composers of his generation, and his musical style influenced many 20th-century composers.

This arrangement has parts for both E flat alto saxophone solo and B flat soprano saxophone solo. The score shows only the E flat part.
