Abschied, S.251. by Franz Liszt arranged for SATB saxophone quartet. The title translates from German as farewell, parting, or resignation. It is a fitting title for this 1885 Liszt piece based on a Russian folksong. It is a slow and sad goodbye. It makes for an excellent exercise in balance and dynamic control.

This brief work is scored for SATB sax quartet. Unlike many of Liszt’s piano works, this piece makes few technical demands on the performer. The transcription for saxophone quartet is easy.
